HOW TO MAKE PUTO FLAN IN 4 EASY STEPS
INGREDIENTS
For the Puto:
2 cups of All-purpose flour
4 tsps Baking powder
2/3 cup of white granulated sugar
1/2 tsp Salt
4 egg whites
1 & 1/4 cup of water
Few drops of yellow food coloring (optional)
For the Flan:
4 egg yolks
1 can of sweetened condensed milk (370g)
2 tsps of lemon or calamansi juice
Step 1: Create flan by mixing egg yolks, condensed milk, add the lemon juice. Heat water in steamer, bring to boil. Grease puto moulds lightly, fill with flan mixture 1/3 full.
Step 2: Steam for 20 minutes. Check once in a while, if flan is cooked, no longer liquid form. set aside. To create puto mixture, sift dry ingredients together. Add wet ingredients, mix.
Step 3: Add puto mixture over flan mixture, steam for 15 minutes. Or until it has risen and shows a shiny dome. Allow to cool down before removing from the moulds to make sure the flan and puto stick together.
Step 4: Use a knife to loosen puto from molder, tap slightly to release.
