The Jeep Grand Cherokee has a storied history in Australia, and the current-generation version is getting long in the tooth.
It's more than a decade since the big five-seat SUV went on sale in its current trim, but now there's an all-new model available, and it has technology and eco-friendliness as two of its big talking points.
The new fifth generation WL Grand Cherokee has launched in the US with a new 4xe (four-by-e) plug-in hybrid powertrain, which pairs a turbo petrol engine to a pair of electric motors. The idea, Jeep says, is that you can drive to your favourite off road track in hybrid or petrol mode, and then enjoy the scenery and nature while hitting the trails in full electric mode.
With about 40km of electric driving range, that seems like a logical idea. And our man Andrew Chesterton has just done exactly that in the United States of America, where he got to know the Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk model in more detail.
It won't be long until it hits Aussies roads (and bush tracks), but this first drive shows a lot of progress has been made with the Grand Cherokee in the latest generation version.
