(10 Dec 2018) Thousands of River Plate fans celebrated in Buenos Aires after the football team beat historical rival Boca Juniors in the final of the Libertadores Cup in Madrid on Sunday.
River beat Boca 3-1 in extra time at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in the Spanish capital - where the match had been moved after fan violence marred the second leg in Argentina two weeks ago, when Boca players were injured before the game after River fans attacked the team bus with rocks, bottles and wood.
While thousands of River and Boca supporters had travelled to Madrid to see the match live, the majority of Argentinian fans were watching the final from Buenos Aires' streets and in bars.
At the end of the match, supporters in red and white - River's team colours - celebrated the title at the Obelisk in central Buenos Aires.
The win was River's fourth Copa Libertadores title, and first since 2015; Boca Juniors remains on six titles and missed a chance to tie Argentina's Independiente as the competition's most successful club.
