If you want to get away for the weekend or a week, then this is the perfect type of holiday for you.
It's usually called 'weekend break'.
You can focus on just one city and make the most out of your trip.
When you take a city break, you need to consider where you're going to stay. And there are different options when it comes to accommodation.
ACCOMMODATION
– rent a holiday apartment
– stay in a hotel in a historic city
– book a budget hotel
– stay at a guest house or a hostel (if you are looking for the most affordable price)

Tourist attractions are usually the main reason why people want to travel somewhere. Let’s take the Eiffel Tower as an example. It’s definitely what attracts visitors to Paris.
When we talk about sightseeing, there are a few phrases you should know.
SIGHTSEEING
* go sightseeing | do sightseeing
sightseeing (noun) – the activity of visiting interesting buildings and places as a tourist
* go a sightseeing tour of the city
* a sightseeing tour (= in which you visit famous or interesting places in an area)
Example:
– On Saturday, we went on a sightseeing tour of London.
* go to museum and art galleries
* go on (a) tour
Example:
– It would be nice to go on a tour of the islands.
* a guided tour
Examples:
– There is a guided tour of the museum every day.
– The guided tour of the old town was a real learning experience.

When you take a city break, you get to explore the local food.
Food can vary from one part of the country to another.
If you spend a full week in a city, you have enough time to try different dishes.
When you go on a city break, you can visit a Tourist Information Centre and ask for more information about different events that are taking place in the city.
This could be a concert or a festival. Anything you might be interested in.
* a cultural event
You can also explore local markets. There are different types of markets.
* a craft market (= a market selling things people have made) – I bought a wooden carving at the craft market.
* a farmers’ market (= where farmers sell their produce directly to the public) – He always buys his vegetables at the farmers’ market.
* a flea market (=where you can buy old or used things) – Flea markets are good if you want to buy vintage clothes.
You can also buy souvenirs to take back home.
