Got this remote mount well over 12 months ago. Always found an excuse not to take it out, then misplaced the battery, thinking it was lost for good. I found the battery today!
It has a great little remote control. (Dual wheels to control the tilt and pan) and it comes to hand very nice. So many control options which can be changed via the touch LCD screen. I can set the pan and tilt speed independently from one another. There's still nothing so fully featured like it.
Mounting the unit is via a super strong rare earth magnet, which would have a 30 to 40kg pull force.
The remote unit itself also fully featured it has a good-sized battery, which is roughly the size of 4x 18650 batteries. I'm pretty sure you can power the whole unit via a USB-C out in the field (from your vehicle). On top of this, you can also power your thermal spotter at the same time, via one of the USB ports on the remote unit, which should mean never having to change batteries on the thermal or the remote mount unit.
Theres several mounting plates included, so this should mean you can mount virtually any thermal device on top of it, without having to buy any other mounts to get you up and running.
Not sure if they still make these units, but would be nice to see any similar remote offerings incorporate some of the great features this unit has to offer.
When I ran my initial tests on this device the bonnet mount option was ok, but placement is the key, there are so many vibrations on your bonnet, you really have to mount it in a spot with minimal vibrations, or better still roof mount.
Also, this unit is not waterproof, being so wet last year I didn't want to destroy it that way.
Keen to give this remote mount another shot, I add some video of it after we re-test this bad boy.
Will be interested to hear if you think these types of remote mounts are a good or bad idea. Happy hunting everyone!
