She’s back! Yes, after years in Australia, drag diva Dolly Diamond is back in the land of her birth, the UK, and she’s got some gigs coming up. McG spoke to her at London’s Phoenix Arts Club just before a show.
Dolly is outspoken about everything, especially the Covid situation in Australia. Parts of the country are in lockdown again and Dolly isn’t at all impressed by the way the government is handling vaccinations. Her show at the Above the Stag theatre in Vauxhall is about her life in lockdown in Melbourne. She was only allowed to leave Oz because she’s had two jabs. Of course she’s far too young to get a booster later this year.
Dolly talks about becoming an Australian citizen in 2014 (she had to sing “Advance Australia Fair”), living it up at the Turtle Cove Beach Resort, and singing with the Jack Earle Big Band. She also mentions some of her famous friends. There’s Julian Clary of course. And there’s the mysterious Michael Dalton as well. He hasn’t been seen much since Dolly’s career took off…
“I’m Not Angry, Just Disappointed” plays Above the Stag on 26th September:

Only on Patreon Dolly takes us into her dressing room to talk about the ABBA reunion and having a voice like “honey over gravel”. Much to everyone’s surprise she also does an impression of a clarinet.
