In this talk, Baroness Nicola Blackwood talks about her role as Chair of Genomics England, the government-owned company that was launched in 2013. The idea was—and still is—to create a genomic revolution in the health service, leveraging NHS patients’ DNA data to offer a more personalised type of healthcare.
'One particular clinician ran the service within his clinic and found that in about 81% of cases using whole genome sequencing was used to provide additional information for improving care and in about 24% of cases that actually changed the way in which they delivered care and in about 14% of cases it changed diagnosis.'
Nicola became Oxford’s first ever female MP in 2010 and went on to become Innovation Minister in the Department for Health in 2019. She is currently Chair of Genomics England.
