In 1984 the breakdance mania broke the Iron Curtain and settled in Czechoslovak cities. The biggest centre of this dance was in Bratislava, where legendary dance band “Gumení chlapci” was formed. This was the base for the future hip-hop scene, that developed in Slovakia in crucial early 1990´s between new generation of youth raised on communist built panel-house estates all around the Czechoslovakia, where were just minor opportunities for spending free time for teenagers. During the last years of communist era some Slovak interprets experimented with this new genre appropriate for breakdance and made only a few songs, where rap appeared. Peter Nagy, who was that time new raised popstar recorded two songs in this style. “Druhý dych” was released only on 7-inch SP. Even if it is hardly comparable to the New York contemporary hip-hop, the sound of this song is very “electronically dancy” and hardly comparable to anything similar in central Europe. Hip-hop became the new revolt against the unfair regime, rock became the new mainstream and schlager died. This reordering of ideologies of music genres is evident through the history every new decade.
