Exporting Multitracks Quickly in Reaper (RFRT Ep14)
Someone on Reaper User Group asked how to Export Stems so here is my way! When producers ask for Stems they mean they want separate audio files for each element in your mix, so every vocal track, every backing vox track, every drum track, every guitar, and so on. This allows them to mix these elements to their liking. Using my method, you will be able to provide your engineer with correctly timed, named and numbered files, so when they import it into their DAW, which could be Reaper or any other DAW, they will be in sync, and in the order you specified.
I like to order my stems like this:
-Drums
Kick
Snare
HH
Toms
OH
Kit
Room
Percussions
-Bass
DI
Amp
Synths
-Guitars
Rhythm
Lead
-Keys, Synths
-Other Instruments (Strings, Horns, etc.)
-Backing Vocals
-Vocals
This is pretty standard for most producers. Make sure to ask yours if they prefer another order.
