EPISODE 12: What is Truth?

PART 2: Subverting Violence With Violence | What is Truth?
----------
How are artist's use of technology changing the presentation of violence and our ability to tackle critical issues such as gun violence, the abduction of women and even our greater need for empathy, understanding and action? Using infrared and multispectral cameras and drones, Richard Mosse subverts military technologies to document things at the limits of our comprehension; civil war in the Congo, the refugee crisis, and the deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest. Artist, writer, and scholar Luz María Sánchez meanwhile uses cybercartography, 3D Printing and data sonification to build digital memorials to victims of violence in the Americas, addressing issues such as state-sanctioned disappearances and abductions in Mexico in her installations. Is technology inherently violent or can it be subverted for good?
