[ Ссылка ] Keshav Batish playing raga Khammaj. The vichitra veena is a very rare instrument and played by an increasingly small number of practitioners. This veena belonged to the legendary Pandit Shiv Dayal Batish, Keshav's grandfather. It once belonged to the legendary vichitra veena player Abdul Aziz Khan back around 1930's. Keshav grandfather used to listen to him perform for his guru ji Chandan Ram Charan of Patiala. Abdul Aziz Khan Sahab and Shri Chandan Ram Charan ji were friends. Khan Sahab used to visit Charan ji and play his veena for Charan ji's students. Later, a young Shiv Dayal Batish would buy this for about 200 rupees and the rest is history. Keshav Batish is the son of the sitar maestro Ashwin Batish and continues to learn and practice music under his father's guidance. Here he is playing Khammaj Raga Alap.
Keshav is a multi-instrumentalist. He plays tabla, sitar, santoor, flute, vichitra veena, sarodini veena, sarangi, singing and the western drum set. You can catch him in concert with his father performing as the Sitar Power Ensemble.
