Everslaught Invasion aims to bring the fun VR hack and slash experience of the PC VR game over to the standalone market on Quest 2, only this time you can bring a friend (and that definitely feels like the way this new VR game is supposed to be played). Everslaught Invasion is a new VR wave defence game with an emphasis on fast movement mechanics and very arcadey combat, if you're looking for Blade and Sorcery or Hellsplit Arena you certainly won't find that here. Weapons in Everslaught cleave straight through enemies with each swing meaning enemies feel like ghosts rather than chunky tangible creatures that you can dispatch in unique ways. However that's not to say the combat isn't fun, it's just a different flavour; a more frantic and arcade feeling affair that reminds me of a VR Doom / VR boomer shooter in it's more fast paced moments. This new Quest 2 game doesn't quite feel as enjoyable as it's PC VR counterpart which is a real shame when you realise the PC version has been left untouched since it launched into early access quite some time ago. Gone are the roguelike style gameplay mechanics and levels to explore and instead the Quest 2 version opts for a wave brawler gameplay loop that is built to be played in short bursts with a friend.

If you're looking for a single player story driven game for your Quest 2 then Everslaught Invasion will likely leave you disappointed, however if you want some mindless action to play with a buddy whilst you hang out virtually there is surely a tonne of fun to be had with this new VR hack and slash adventure.
