The Met Office has issued an amber warning of severe weather for the Southwest of England, and a yellow warning of severe weather for parts of South Wales.
Severe weather is expected for parts of Southwest England and South Wales during Thursday.
An unseasonably deep low-pressure system, centred over the Southwest Approaches early on Thursday, is pushing steadily northeastwards through the day to be centred over Cardigan Bay by evening. South to southwesterly winds will reach severe gale force at times, with gusts anticipated to be around 50 to 60 mph for inland parts.
Some exposed coastal areas may see gusts in excess of 70 mph. Spells of heavy rain are also forecast. Such strong winds, in combination with the heavy rain, will make for difficult and dangerous travelling conditions through the second half of Thursday. The strong winds could also bring coastal flooding for parts of South Wales and around the Bristol Channel, and Flood Alerts have been issued by the Environment Agency.
