In today’s video, Phil covers an advanced technique for improving your aerobic capacity. Phil demonstrates how using this as a tool can truly challenge your endurance, as long as it is done safely. Try this out carefully with lower risk exercises within your routine and let us know how you like it!
Breath Holds
- Normal breath in
- Normal breath out
- Hold breath and do the exercise for 10 seconds
- After 10s, rest & breathe normally
- Rest for 20s
- Repeat for 10 total rounds
4:55 IMPORTANT Things to Consider
- Body Oxygen Level Test (BOLT)
- 20 seconds or higher
- Breath in & blow out
- If you can hold your breath for at least 20s or more, then you can try breath holds
- If you cannot reach 20s during “BOLT” test
- Practice nasal breathing
- Minimal breath holds throughout the day
- DO NOT push past dizziness or feeling faint
- Stop at this point and practice minimal breath holds without exercise
