A RUTHLESS gangland crime boss and his three henchmen were jailed for a total of 56 years yesterday. Robert 'The Birdman' O'Hara, 27, who ran a massive drugs racket in north Glasgow, ordered the execution of a rival's relative and was given life and ordered to serve a minimum of 20 years.
Colin McKay, 25, who carried out the murder, was also jailed for life and told he must serve at least 14 years.
O'Hara's No2, Robert Murray, 25, was locked up for 12 years.
A fourth gang member, 30-year-old Brian Kelly, was given 10 years.
The four appeared for sentence at the High Court in Edinburgh after being convicted at an earlier trial of murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to murder as well as drugs and firearms offences.
Judge Lord Dawson told O'Hara he was a despicable criminal who had 'terrorised a whole area of Glasgow'.
The jury were told Paul McDowall, 25, was ambushed in daylight in Possilpark on July 22 last year and died under a rain of blows from batons and knivesThe victim was an associate of a rival drug dealer and became a pawn in a power struggle between O'Hara and the other gang.
Lord Dawson described it as 'an evil criminal conspiracy to murder a young man'.
He told O'Hara: 'There is little I can say to reflect the revulsion every decent citizen must feel about you.
'You literally terrorised a whole area of the city of Glasgow and reaped substantial rewards.'
