You'll see a dry needling twitch response in the lumbar erector muscles (right side) first, as well as dry needling to the right gluteus medius and gluteus maximus. Lower back dry needling can be effective for treating acute or chronic low back pain with lumbar erector and gluteal muscle involvement. If you look closely you'll see a local twitch response (LTR), especially in the lumbar erector and gluteus maximus muscles. The LTR is a common response in dry needling, especially with the pistoning of the needle or needle manipulation.

When combined with a rehab exercise strategy dry needling can be a great therapy to help relieve conditions of the low back like chronic low back pain, lumbar sprain/strain, lumbar disc-related pain, SI joint pain, lumbopelvic instability, limited lumbar range of motion, or tightness and stiffness in the lumbar spine. Keep in mind it's typically not used as a stand-alone therapy but best used in conjunction with a rehab plan and sometimes spinal manipulation as well.

I use 6 needles in this video while dry needling the glutes and low back muscles. Not every needle is going to produce a twitch response in the muscle, but many times it will. Dry needling twitch responses are often followed by soreness, but also relief of muscle tension that's painful and limiting you in many ways.
