Recording of Voices for Justice in Palestine's Zoom webinar with Yousef Munayyer and Peter Beinart.
The conversation about a just and sustainable peace in Palestine-Israel is shifting in new and exciting ways. The “2-state solution,” the reigning orthodoxy for decades, is widely recognized to have collapsed. In current political discourse, there is renewed interest in a “one-state solution,” a bi-national democracy between the River and the Sea, with freedom, security, and equal rights for all its citizens.
Voices for Justice in Palestine (VJP) hosted a free online webinar (see flyer below). Our online webinar, “Perspectives on the One State: Where Do We Go From Here?” will explore the “one-state solution” with two acclaimed and insightful presenters with deep experience and extensive knowledge of the Israeli-Palestinian issues, Yousef Munayyer and Peter Beinart. =
Yousef Munayyer is a Palestinian-American writer and scholar. He is a Non-Resident Fellow at Arab Center Washington, DC (ACW) where he writes on Israel/Palestine. Formerly, he served as Executive Director of the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, and is a member of the editorial committee of the Journal of Palestine Studies. Some of his published articles can be found in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Nation, Foreign Policy, Journal of Palestine Studies, Middle East Policy, and others. He is a frequently-consulted source for Palestinian perspectives on wide-ranging developments in Israel-Palestine. Dr. Munayyer holds a PhD in International Relations and Comparative Politics from the University of Maryland.
Peter Beinart is a Professor of Journalism and Political Science at the City University of New York. He is also a contributor to The Atlantic, a CNN Political Commentator, Editor-at-Large of Jewish Currents, and a Non-Resident Fellow at The Foundation for Middle East Peace. His third book, The Crisis of Zionism, published in 2012, chronicled the growth of disaffection with Israel among young American Jews. Beinart has written for The New York Times, and numerous national and international newspapers, magazines, and journals. Mr. Beinart is a graduate of Yale University, with graduate study at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. His recent article in Jewish Currents, “Yavne: A Jewish Case for Equality in Israel-Palestine, “ and his op-ed in The New York Times announcing his abandonment of “the 2-state solution” as “morally indefensible” have been much-discussed.
