COVID-19 has adversely impacted the rapidly growing global interest in tourism. However, events like the current COVID-19 pandemic rains the question of how sustainable and resilient this sector is. A new focus on both product development and tourism marketing (and supporting infrastructure) and promotion is going to be a big challenge. To rescue current tourism PPPs and revive existing ones will be more important than ever. PPPs role to contribute financing, managing expertise, technology and other resources will be larger than ever. It will also be important to address (mitigate) the ripple effect on multiple stakeholders who are impacted by current events. David Baxter will discuss the importance of the economic and social advantages of tourism development while reducing or mitigating any undesirable impacts on the natural, historic, cultural or social environment.
