Dr. Lane comments on why he prefers the Mako robotic procedure for partial knee replacements.
The mako allows preoperative planning based on high resolution CT scan of the patient's knee. Intra-operatively, the surgeon fine tunes the implant plan based on real time ligament balance testing. The implant position is customized for the individual's anatomy, musculature and ligament laxity. This plan is then transferred over to the robot to aid in making precise, bone-sparing cuts.
