אתם מוזמנים לצפות במצלמת שידור חי, המתעדת מסביב לשעון זוג נשרים בעלי נכות. רשות הטבע והגנים הציבה בימים אלו בשיתוף ד"ר מוטי צ'רטר, אקולוג-חוקר בכיר במכון שמיר למחקר ואוניברסיטת חיפה, מצלמת מעקב בשידור חי, המתעדת מסביב לשעון קינון זוג נשרים בעלי נכות. המצלמה הוצבה לטובת פעילות מחקר, ניטור והסברה כחלק מהמאמצים לבסס ולאושש את אוכלוסיית העופות הדורסים בישראל בהם גם הנשרים, המצויים בסכנת הכחדה.
זוג הנשרים הם ילידי שנת 2000 משמורת גמלא, הסובלים מרככת – מחלת עצמות הגורמת לרכות בעצמות ועיוותים. לאור נכות זו הושארו הנשרים בגרעין הרבייה שמפעילה הרשות (במסגרת פעילות "פורסים כנף"), לטובת גידול גוזלים, שעתידים להשתחרר לטבע עם גדילתם.
גרעין הרבייה המיוחד הוא חלק מסדרת פעולות ומאמצים שמשקיעים הגופים השותפים לפרויקט פורשים כנף למען העופות הדורסים בהם גם ממשק כנגד התחשמלויות, צמצום מקרי הרעלות וצייד לא חוקי, הנגשת מזון מבוסס פגרים לנשרים וכן פעולות חינוך והסברה בקרב הציבור הרחב.
The Israel Nature and Parks Authority and the Charter Group of Wildlife Ecology (Shamir Research Institute and the University of Haifa) would like to invite you to watch a live 24/7 webcam of a very unique Griffon Vulture nest that comprises two handicapped Griffon Vultures . The live cam is part of the monitoring and research efforts to establish and restore the locally endangered vultures back to Israel.
The vulture pair were born in the early 2000 Gamla Nature reserve and suffered from rickets - a bone disease that causes softness in bones and deformities. In light of this disability, the vulture pair came together and started to lay eggs and were placed in into the vulture conservation project (called "Opening Wing") to increase the birds numbers and is led by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, together with the Israel Electric Company and the Israel Society for the Protection of Nature.
The handicapped pair built a nest in a specially built nest structure that is “handicapped accessible”, allowing the parents to climb up easily to the location. Vultures still faces such serious problems in the Middle East such as electrocution, poisoning, habitat loss and hunting and the hope is that this pair, regardless of their handicap will assist in bringing up vulture numbers in the years to come.
The camera was added and maintained by the Charter Group of Wildlife Ecology (The Shamir Research Institute and the Department of Geography and Environmental Science of the University of Haifa) and funded by a private donor. The camera was placed in full cooperation with Israel Nature and Parks Authority, led by Ygal Miller.
