Narrator: Recently, an F-22 aircraft incident occurred north of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson during a routine flying mission. Communication with the aircraft was suddenly lost and search and rescue teams were deployed.
John Pennell: Yesterday evening about 7:40 p.m., one of our F-22s lost contact with ground radar. we immediately began search operations and coordination with the 11th Rescue Coordination Center. At this point, we believe we've located the crash site about a hundred miles north of Anchorage. We don't have a good handle right now on the condition of the pilot. He is obviously the foremost in our thoughts right now is getting him back safely.
Col Jack McMullen: This morning about 10:15 the Alaska Air National Guard helicopter found a site that fits the data and description of where we thought the mishap probably occurred. So they found a crash site, they were unable to land on the crash site and take a closer look but we scrambled another helipcoter that should be in the area in the next few moments that's going to actually land and we're going to ensure that that was indeed an F-22 and that is the crash site. As we work through this we're still doing an active search to try and find the pilot; perhaps he ejected, until we can figure out whether he ejected from the airplane or he is in the airplane itself; we don't know. As always the Alaska community has come together; the outpouring of response is great so thanks to the Alaska community for their support and the Alaska Air National Guard to help us. Thanks a lot!
Narrator: The condition of the pilot is still unknown. Air Force Staff Sergeant Daniel Delgado, Joint Base Elmendorf- Richardson, Alaska.
