‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣ THIS EPISODE ‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣

In this week’s episode, we officially hit the road toward Alaska in the new Grand Design Lineage! After getting it all packed out and organized (you can check out how we set up this new Class C for our family of 4 here: [ Ссылка ]), we said bye to our friends in Montana and headed for the border!

This is where we faced our first hurdle: will they let us into Canada? We spent months researching, making phone calls and collecting paperwork to make sure that we were going to be able to cross the border with a vehicle that was not registered to us and that was insured by a 3rd company! We left with a whole lot of paper work and luckily, we didn’t need any of it for this first crossing!

Hurdle number 2 was getting to Moraine Lake to recreate a photo that we took with the girls 6 years ago on our first trip to Alaska. 

Due to the insane amount of people trying to see Moraine Lake in Banff National Park each year, you are no longer able to drive your own vehicle, and there are only 2 buses that will get you there: Roam Transit and Parks Canada. Tickets with either of those companies will get you on the Lake Connector Bus that will take you from Lake Louise (or the Lake Louise Park and Ride) to Moraine Lake.

The biggest bummer for us is that the first bus available doesn’t leave until 7am, so no sunrise and donuts at Moraine Lake this time. 

In order for us to ensure that we could make the bus, we had to get there early to secure a parking spot at Lake Louise. We got up at 3:30am to head to the parking lot and had the whole place to ourselves! Our advice is to get there around 5am or a little before sunrise, and you should be fine!

The next day was our 24 hour Jasper National Park tour, and we definitely fit in a whole lot of stops that day! Our biggest tip is to give yourself time to see all of these places as they are totally worth it!

We got to see Bow Lake, climb to the overlook at Peyto Lake (our favorite stop of the day), hike to Athabasca Glacier, find our broken cairn from 6 years ago, enjoy the view of Sunwapta Falls and walk through the old river bed at Athabasca Falls. We ended the day with dinner and a drive through the town of Jasper before heading to our campground.

We drove through this area just days before the fires hit the town of Jasper. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who was affected by this tragic event. We know so many are working around the clock to get the amazing community of Jasper back together, and we hope to help out on our way back if possible.
