카리브해 섬 화산 폭발에 1만6천명 대피... "폭발 이어질 것"
A volcano on the eastern Caribbean island of St. Vincent, erupted on Friday, local time, after decades of inactivity.
Thousands started evacuating in a frenzy as dark plumes of ash shot up into the sky.
According to Reuters, the volcano called La Soufriere began spewing smoke and steam in December.
Further signs of an imminent eruption picked up this week, prompting St. Vincent and the Grenadines' prime minister to order an evacuation of the surrounding area on Thursday.
No casualties have been reported so far, but experts say there may be extra explosions for weeks, if not months.
The last time the volcano erupted was back in 1979.
