Miatas belong to the most affordable sportscar you can buy today and you can drive each generation without losing money to depreciation or by losing only very little. There are however important differences in depreciation trends between the different generations, and perhaps more important, also within each generation.

If you are a value conscious buyer, I would avoid the cars from the latest model years such as 2023 and 2024. Depreciation trends are relatively steep and the cars are highly sensitive to mileage. If you are shopping for an ND generation, I would look at the cars that are a few years old.

In the NC and NB generation, this are flattening out and the differences between these are much smaller. Both generations are still depreciating, but due to similar price levels and mileage sensitivity, the absolute loss per year is fairly similar.

The NA generation in turn should be seen separate from the rest. The price trend is clearly different as prices are trending up. Price variability is high though and low mileage examples in pristine condition demand significant premiums.
