Here it is folks, a demonstration of how the brass claw and fat brass block each affect the tone and sustain of a Floyd Rose equipped guitar. Additional info/facts at the bottom.
All 3 combinations (all stock, brass claw + stock block and brass claw + brass fat block) are showcased through 4 categories: clean, mid-gain, high-gain rhythm and lead. Short samples used for immediate/direct comparison across configurations.
Index:
- Clean 01:15
- Mid-gain: 02:10
- High-gain rhythm: 03:03
- High-gain lead: 04:08
Additional info/facts:
- The bigger (more mass) the block the more sustain. However larger blocks will add more weight, increasingly limit the tremolo’s range of movement and could potentially be thicker than the guitar’s body. Measure carefully.
- 6-string fat block available heights: 32mm, 37mm and 42mm
- The “old” 7-string fat block available heights: 34mm and 37mm (the mounting screw separation was wider than the 6-string version)
- The “current” 7-string tremolos simply use the 6-string compatible blocks
- The all brass parts will probably change the tone slightly compared to the stock ones, some say it’d be a tad darker
