*Tendons: Strong & flexible bands of fibrous tissue that connect muscles to bones.
Example: Quadriceps & patellar tendon attach quadriceps to tibial bone.
* Ligaments: Connective tissue made of tough collagen fibers that attach one bone to another bone.
Function to provide support & stability to a joint by preventing excessive motion.
Examples: Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL), Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) & Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL) of the knee.
*Muscles: Bands of contractile tissue that possess the ability to produce movement in a joint or joints or to maintain the position of a joint or joints.
Example: Quadriceps are powerful muscles in the anterior thigh that when contracted concentrically they extend the knee.
