Simple Lughnasadh Bread Magick, with a Lammas Bread Recipe. 🌾 Let's celebrate the first harvest festival of the season with some kitchen witchcraft in a simple Lughnasadh ritual.
🍞 Lughnasadh & Lammas Bread Recipe:
🍞 Ingredients:
1 1/4 Tsp Baking Yeast
1 Tbsp Olive Oil
Dash of Sugar
Dash of Salt
1 1/4 Cups of Water
Flour
*Egg (Optional)
🍞 Baking Lugnasadh Bread Step by Step:
Mix together water (lukewarm), yeast and sugar. Leave until yeast is lightly bubbly to let you know the yeast is still active.
To bubbly yeast mixture, add salt, then flour in portions. Add flour until the dough is stiff to mix. Place on a lightly floured countertop and knead until dough comes together. I usually add a bit more flour as I'm kneading.
Place dough in a bowl covered with a tea towel somewhere warm until it's doubled in size (usually about an hour).
Place on a lightly floured countertop and squish down the dough. Divide into 3 portions. Roll each portion into a log shape. Then plait together into a braid. Place on a baking sheet and cover with a towel to rise until doubled in size again (usually about an hour).
Brush with egg for a golden loaf. Then bake in the oven at 350F for about 25ish minutes. Remove from oven and place on a baking rack to cool. When cool, slice and enjoy!
Notes:
Rising times can vary based on temperature. Throughout the year the rising times fluctuate in my home from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 20 minutes. So simply keep an eye out for when its doubled in size.
For the baking times, this will also vary depending on your oven. The bread is done when you take it out, knock on it, and it sounds hollow.
