‘Down the Club’ was recorded in 1981 at and on behalf of Bedminster Down Boys Club by HTV Bristol, accompanied by presenter Louis Robinson and Brenda’s guitarist Chris Newman. It begins, as did her weekly record request programme Sunday Best on Radio Cornwall, with the welcoming ‘Come On In’, and includes the beautiful and lyrical, ‘What’s in a Name’ by superb songwriter Ewen Carruthers again, De Sul Vyttyn, written in Cornish by her mentor, Cornish Bard Richard Gendall, ‘Take Me Drive Me’, also by Richard, but in English; ‘Johnny Groat’ a cute traditional song (which seems more suited to the other end of Britain!), and the lovely Tishomingo Blues, for a bit of variety.
