Gregory Isaacs (July 15, 1951 - October 25, 2010) was a Jamaican reggae musician. This morning Jamaican reggae legend Gregory Isaacs died in London aged 59, after a battle with liver cancer. Also known as the Cool Ruler, Isaacs made his name on the reggae circuit in the 1970s, and by the 80s had become one of reggae's most prominent exports, regularly touring the UK, US and Europe.

Isaacs' career and personal life also fared controversy, with the singer facing legal battles and a stint in prison in his earlier years, mostly owing to his battle with a severe cocaine addiction. However, Isaacs continued to carve his name in reggae history over the next three decades, producing and releasing records on his independent imprint African Museum, touring and working with a plethora of reggae talent, including Freddie McGregor and Beres Hammond.

Many mainstream audiences will be most familiar with Isaacs' most commercial hit, 1982′s "Night Nurse". His presence was also felt in hip hop; most notably Mos Def sampled 1981′s "If I Don't Have You" on his single, "Ms. Fat Booty".
