It's been I while since I uploaded a video of my coronation scot, so I decided I would film a video of it doing the ton...sort of....
This is video is actually supposed to be a reenactment of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway's Coronation Scot on it's famous, record breaking maiden run from London, England to Glasgow in Scotland. The engine on front of the train, 6220 "Coronation" made the speed record of 114 MPH. The LMS held the speed record for only a short time, as a few months later, a steam train in Germany would take the speed record.
Despite the fact that in later years that the Coronation Scot Express would be plagued with problems like speed restrictions, delays because of slow goods trains, cancellation of the Coronation Scot service because of World War II, and the fact that the famous 6220 was eventually scrapped in the 1960's by British Railways, the Coronation Scot will always be remembered for it's record breaking maiden run.
Here we see the Coronation Scot on that day in 1937, storming down the mainline towards Glasgow.
