In Mega Man 2 for the NES, there's a fairly simple zip you can perform right near the beginning of the Crash Man level that will allow you to skip some very annoying and tedious rooms. Generally this glitch saves you a good bit of time, even though it costs a life to execute.
This trick works best with Item 1 so make sure you've defeated Heat Man first. Then go to Crash Man's stage.
In the very second screen, hop up to the middle platform and throw an Item 1 to the left. You'll want the Item 1 to be positioned mostly over the ladder, since the Item 1 platform will disappear if there is a ceiling, floor, or wall roughly 20 pixels above the center of the platform.
The goal here is to have the Item 1 platform push Mega Man's head into the ceiling section just to the right of the ladder as the platform ascends. So throw an Item 1 platform to the left of that small ceiling section and hop on top of it. Now press Mega Man flush up against the right wall next to the ladder and face to the right. Let go of the D-Pad.
If you've done these steps right, Mega Man will get squeezed into the ceiling just to the right of the ladder. Once his head begins to overlap the ceiling - and you should be facing right here - throw another Item 1 into the wall (it will immediately disappear, and that's fine). Then immediately tap Left on the D-Pad so Mega Man faces left, and this will begin the zip. Once Mega Man starts zipping, hold Up on the D-Pad and he should eventually start climbing an invisible ladder.
After he climbs up into the next screen, he will be walking inside the floor. Now walk to the right until Mega Man scree wraps from the right side of the screen to the left side, and do this screen wrap twice.
After screen wrapping for the second time, Mega Man will be toward the left side of the screen. Now hold Down and Right on the D-Pad so that Mega Man will grab on to another invisible ladder while he's running to the right. Once this happens, let go and Mega Man will lose a life. When he respawns, he will be at the middle check point of the level, and you've just skipped a few annoying rooms! This trick saves probably maybe 20 to 30 seconds in a speedrun. Maybe more? That's just my estimate.
BONUS GLITCH: Usually when Mega Man dies, the music stops for a few seconds and the game allows you a moment to reflect on the mortality of robots before the READY screen re-appears and you can begin playing again. But if you charge up the Atomic Fire ability (earned after defeating Heat Man) and release the charge after Mega Man dies from falling into a pit, the game will instead immediately place you at the READY screen which saves a few seconds.
