Edward Ouko, Remote Sensing Expert with the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development who works on the SERVIR project in Eastern and Southern Africa, describes some of the socio-economic impacts that land use changes, forest degradation and deforestation could have in the region and the importance of monitoring those changes. SERVIR is a technology project, established through a partnership between United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), in collaboration with regional institutions in East Africa, Himalaya and Mesoamerica.
