The Festival of the Resurrection is the climax of the Church's Year, the feast of feasts, the king of days. Because of the victory of our Lord which is demonstrated to mankind in the Resurrection, this day of the week has become "the Lord's Day" in the life of the Church. In joyful remembrance of His victory, the faithful observe a weekly commemoration which does not displace but rather emphasizes the annual observance of the Resurrection. Easter is a day of greatest and holiest joy, for the Resurrection itself is the divine testimony that the Redemption of the Cross has been accomplished. We continue the joyful celebration which began with the shouts of Alleluia in the Great Vigil of Easter on Holy Saturday. The Season of Easter, therefore, is treated as a "Week of Weeks"; the Seven Sundays in the Easter Season are celebrated as the seven days of the week of Easter. So, throughout the Easter Season, it is appropriate to sings hymns which refer to "today" as if it were still Easter Day. The first "day" in the "Week of Weeks" is Easter itself, where our Savior returns to us from the grave, victorious over sin, death, and the devil. The liturgical color for the Day of the Resurrection is Gold, with White for the remainder of the Easter Season.
