Born to a moderate family in Yemen, Ramzi bin al-Shibh had gravitated into a nefarious environment which saw him enter Kandahar training camp run by Al Qaeda years later which led to his alleged participation in the September 11th terrorist attacks..While traveling from Yemen to Germany, he tried numerous times to obtain a US and German visa in which he was denied on both accounts, however he was granted a temporary stay as a "political refugee" in Germany. It was here he visited Al Quds mosque in Hamburg and met with future 9/11 hijackers, Mohammed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, and Ziad Jarrah. All 4 of these men would later travel to Afghanistan in 1999 where they would allegedly meet Osama Bin Laden, Mohammed Atef and Khalid Sheikh Muhammad while becoming part of a plot where planes would be hijacked and deliberately crash into targeted US buildings. al-Shib, like some of the 9/11 hijackers, came under German and international surveillance. After the 9/11 attacks, al-Shibh would hide out in Pakistan and captured, where he was then handed over to the cIA who tortures him over a 4 year period. Only to have a congressional inquiry over the information he provided which was basically "insignificant". He currently awaits trial while being housed at Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba.
