Lyrics:
Careful, before you
Politicize his little eyes.
Protect his innocence
Or he could get mixed up inside.
(I was like)
Yeah? Well, I’m here
To train his brain and eye-balls
So when he fares out there
He’s prepared for survival.
(she said)
I will not be idle
and just watch this.
I’m down with your cause
But your anger is toxic.
Let’s teach him all we can
But we can do this better, please.
The way you talk in this house
makes me feel like I’m the enemy.
(I was like)
Argh! Not this again.
Please listen well.
You’re not the victim here
And by now you should tell
That your fragility
Is something I will never understand
But the rally’s in a week,
So let’s just decide if we should take Sam.
Are you seeing it through my eyes? My BLM!
I’m telling you, it’s my life! My BLM!
Screaming it far and wide! My BLM!
It really is black and white! My BLM!
(I was like)
My black rage is for this
White supremacist system.
If you think I’m mad at YOU,
You just ain’t listenin’.
(she said)
My love, you’re starting to hate me
I can feel it.
You resent my privilege-
Don’t even try to conceal it.
(I thought)
On that point,
I kinda understand her.
She wants a happy home n’
Shield her son from the anger.
N’ me, I’m kinda skeptical;
It’s a strange thing but
I don’t think a march is gonna
change things much.
(so)
On the day, on the train,
On my way, on my own,
Solidarity with my people
But my son is at home.
But on standby though,
Got my phone in my hand.
I went ahead to check the scene to see if it was cool
To bringSam.
Are you seeing it through my eyes? My BLM!
I’m telling you, it’s my life! My BLM!
Screaming it far and wide! My BLM!
It really is black and white! My BLM!
(I call her)
“Hey, bring him,
It’s not what you feared.
Plenty of white folk, plus families too
No reason to be scared.
So with Sam on my shoulders,
And B holding my hand,
We shuffled through the rally
whilst by eye-balls being scanned.
(the eyes)
Some black eyes were full of joy to see us,
Some were displeased.
Some white eyes were surprised when Sam spoke, what a joke!
Some couples said they want a kid with hairs like his.
What followed,
Was solidarity and speeches,
And justified rage from the stage
which reaches
Into parts of history
Never up for discussion,
But saying how we feel about it
Warrants repercussions?
Healing to be done.
Best we all take a stand.
But united we stronger, so it was best decision
We brought Sam.
I’m glad we brought Sam.
Are you seeing it through my eyes? My BLM!
I’m telling you, it’s my life! My BLM!
Screaming it far and wide! My BLM!
It really is black and white! My BLM!
