I have been wanting to step up to the next level in my maple syrup production and needed a faster way than gravity to filter the finished product. Enter the vacuum system that several major maple suppliers sell for several hundred dollars. I thought it looked fairly simple and started accumulating pieces to make one of my own. For much less than $200 and some help from a friend I have just what was in my mind's eye.
Here are some of the parts I used. Unless stated otherwise, all are from Amazon:
*TIZZE 1/2 inch Stainless Steel Ball Valve Weldless Bulkhead for Building Home Brew Kettle/Mash Tun
*AConnet 4 Pcs Adjustable Toggle Clamp 4002 Style Antiskid Red Hand Tool Horizontal Clamp 551Lbs Holding Capacity Quick Release Tool for Door, Trunk, Jigs, Lid
*Vacmaster Red Edition VOM205P 1101 Portable Wet Dry Shop Vacuum 2.5 Gallon 2 Peak HP 1-1/4 inch Hose
*DERNORD 1/2 Inch Weldless Ball Valve Stainless Steel 304 Bulkhead For Home Brew Kettle (1/2 NPT to 3/8 Barb Hose)
