Metallurgy Class 10 SSC Science - Extraction of Metals of High Reactivity
You can access complete course on [ Ссылка ]
Metals of High Reactivity are sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and aluminium etc. Metals of high reactivity can be extracted from its combined form by electrolysis of molten ore.
Extraction of Sodium
Occurrence: Sodium can be obtained from sodium chloride by electrolytic reduction of molten sodium chloride.
Electrolytic Reduction: During electrolysis sodium is deposited at cathode and chlorine is liberated at anode.
Extraction of Aluminium
Occurrence: Aluminium being reactive metal occur in combined form i.e. in the form of bauxite (Al2O3·H2O). Bauxite ore contain 30% to 70% Al2O3 and remaining portion contain gangue made of sand, silica and iron oxide.
The process of removing impurities from the ore is called concentration of ore. Impurities from bauxite ore is removed by Bayer’s process.
