Follow along with us as we explore the 52 year old Arizona Pioneer Living History Museum near New River, Arizona. This fun, 90 acre, museum will take you back in time to the days of the Pioneers & show you how they lived, worked, entertained & more! With over 20 exhibits, you will really get to see/feel how life was back in the 1800s - early 1900s.
This is an outdoor venue. In the spring winter and fall months the weather is beautiful. During the summer I might recommend coming here early in the morning as temperatures climb into the hundreds pretty quickly. Even though there is ample shade at the Museum, it is still super hot outside during Arizona Summers! The museum doubles as a wedding venue & boasts a beautiful church for the ceremony. There is also an RV Park nextdoor - Not affiliated with the museum.
Masks are required in any indoor portions of the museum and of course outdoors when social distancing cannot be achieved. There are signs everywhere to please watch out for rattlesnakes and stay on the paths made throughout the museum. I learned from experience that the warnings about snakes are not to be taken lightly as we ran into one a while back when I was on a field trip here as a kid. I think one of the coolest things is that this is a dog friendly museum. As long as your dog is on a six foot leash and well-behaved, it is allowed to accompany you and your family to the museum.
We came late in the day, but most of the exhibits have volunteers in them dressed in clothing from that era. There are also gun shows that go on and sometimes they have special guests that perform on site. Each exhibit has some kind of placard next to it talking about what the exhibit is and how it was used back then. They also have goats on site, but be careful, the black and white one is kind of feisty🤣 we love the fact that we could run around the grounds here and despite there being a few other families there, we felt like we were the only ones. one of our favorite parts of the day was watching the three blacksmiths make heart-shaped horseshoes and telling us how it was done step by step. Megan took home a heart-shaped horseshoe. They are for sale in the mercantile. I think we paid $5 for it.
Below are the hours of operation and admission prices for the museum. Keep in mind these times are all in Mountain Standard Time.
