Nick Belmonte of Gourmet Reviews goes to La Fortaleza in Garfield, NJ for a taste of authentic Mexican food as well as authentic Mexican art. This place is as artistic as it gets. La Fortaleza is also a quick fix for the winter blues cause every time I'm in this place I feel like I'm in the Yucatan peninsula. Now I've had shrimp simmered in white wine but Tequilla, c'mon it brings this dish to a whole new level. This is something I never had in any other Mexican restaurant. My buddies were surprised as much as they were satisfied. My friends had a savory Pozole corn soup with pork. This is served with two tostadas. I went for the Aztec soup which is tomato based and cooked with pork rinds, avocado, cheese, tortilla strips and chile pasilla. Not being much of a sangria drinker I must say we all enjoyed the way they made it. Not too sweet but the perfect blend. I've been here many times before and I'll keep going back. Adios!
