(7 Nov 2017) Ousted Catalan President Carles Puigdemont on Tuesday made his first public appearance in Brussels since answering a Spanish arrest warrant.
Puigdemont is fighting extradition to Spain, where other members of his ousted cabinet have been sent to jail while awaiting the results of a probe for allegedly implementing a strategy to secede from Spain.
His next hearing before a Belgian court is on 17 November.
Earlier in the day, Puigdemont criticised European politicians for not condemning Spain for prosecuting Catalan officials who attempted to achieve independence for the prosperous region.
He told Catalan public radio that there was an "absolute disconnect" between the interests of the people and the European "elites" and that Catalonia's problem was an issue of human rights that required "maximum attention."
