This video shows how to deal with Black Spot on roses; unfortunately the weather here in the UK favours the spread of this fungal disease as it thrives where it is warm and wet. It is aimed at the novice gardener and anyone who isn’t quite sure how to mitigate the effects of black spot. There is no cure other than to cut out the infected leaves and branches. You can spray with a fungicide to try and prevent the disease in the first place but it only provides partial protection. The rose is usually OK the following year, but it can weaken the plant if it has a heavy infestation year on year as it cannot photosynthesise efficiently.
We also show where and how to cut the stem. In order to delay the onset of the disease make sure you clear up any fallen leaves and destroy them by burning or disposing of in the grey wheelie bin.
