China and Russia will stage a navy drill, codenamed "Joint Sea-2016", between Sept. 12-19 in the South China Sea off southern China's Guangdong Province starting Monday, a Chinese Navy spokesperson said Sunday.
"The drill will feature Navy surface ships, submarines, fixed-wing aircraft, ship-borne helicopters marine corps and amphibious armored equipment from both navies. Together, Chinese and Russian participants will undertake defense, rescue, and anti-submarine operations, in addition to joint island seizing and other activities," said spokesman Liang Yang.
The marine corps, in particular, will carry out live-fire drills, sea crossing and island landing operations, and island defense and offense exercises among others, he said.
Most of the Chinese participants will come from the South China Sea Fleet under the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN).
Liang said the drill will be more practical, informational and standardized compared to previous ones.
"Compared to previous drills, this drill will deepen and expand in its form, content, command, deployment and so on, especially in practicality, informationization and standardization," said Liang.
Laing said this drill aims at consolidating the comprehensive strategic partnership, deepen friendly and practical cooperation in military, strengthen their combined ability in coping with maritime threats, further improve organizing and commanding capabilities and explore and perfecting ways in practical joint drills.More on:[ Ссылка ]
