Note these are all approximate time frames that will be modified based on individual needs:
To prepare patients for IVF, we will put patients on Birth control pills (BCP) for scheduling purposes. If ovarian reserve is too low, some pts will not be on BCP. BCP can last anytime between 7-21 days.
Once the patient stops them, they will get a period/ menses and will start IVF injectables that could last 9-12 days, depending on follicle growth and hormone levels. Once they have reached maturity, a patient will get a trigger shot, and retrieval will follow 35-36 hours later.
Oocytes/ Eggs will be fertilized by sperm and will remain in an incubator for 5-6 days for development until they become embryos, at which point they might be frozen or transferred back!
We hope this was helpful!
