On The Roofs want to break new ground, go to places yet unseen. We had not seen any major or established explorers visit Mexico. We studied the buildings and found that the most famous skyscraper Torre Latinoamericano in Mexico City to be a worthy goal of our high obsession. When we travel we aim to climb the best spot, the pinnacle of the new places we visit. We make our way to the Torre Latinoamericano building first thing, we stand in line to buy tickets to visit the observation deck where we observe the spire up close surrounded by a crowd of people.
We do recon on multiple days and come to conclusion there’s no way to climb this spire without getting caught. We have to climb in front of the crowds, cameras and guards. Jail is never nice but Mexican jail is especially intimidating. We debate into the late night if we can do this or not. Is this climb worth the risk? We can’t play it safe, it’s all or nothing. We go forth, impose our will and we don’t stop until the top. We deal with the consequences later. The climb was dangerous and exhilarating. We accomplish it during a Friday sunset. We climb fast, create our work then hide the sd cards before descending down into the custody of CDMX police. There’s nothing we won’t do for our art and passion. This is the life we choose, la vida loca. This risk was worth the reward for us, I’ll never forget this climb.
