In around 13,000 years, the Sahara will turn green. Due to the Earth’s slightly oblate shape and the gravitational pull of other planets, Earth’s orbit fluctuates over time in a process called the Milankovitch cycles. Every 26,000 years, these cycles cause the Sahara to receive more summer radiation, triggering a positive feedback loop that spreads vegetation across the region. In around 13,000 years, this loop will be triggered again. Would you like the Sahara to turn green? Let us know in the comments below!
