Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Hathras, the scene of the deadly stampede in Uttar Pradesh which claimed 121 lives, on July 5. He met family members of the victims, most of whom were women. He stressed that he did not want to make it “political”. “I don’t want to speak from a political prism, but there have been some lapses on part of the administration. There have been mistakes, which should be identified," he said.
Mr. Gandhi also urged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to release “maximum compensation” for the victims without any delay.
