It's Lois here today, join me for an experimental session trying to capture the bleak beauty of a reeds and trees growing from the banks of a deserted misty lake, an impressionistic loose watercolour painting using the wet in wet method and really simplifying the scene to create the suggestions rather than the detail, and focusing on a range of tonal values and soft and hard edges to create the suggestion of aerial perspective and distance.
Materials: Millford 140lb/300gsm cold pressed watercolour paper, 11" by 15"/28cms x 38cms. It is taped to my board and my board is at an angle of about 45 degrees, or flat, or I can tip and tilt it to get the water to flow. I use various brushes as shown in the demo, but use any similar ones you have. My colours today are limited to 6: raw and burnt sienna, indigo, raw and burnt umber and lavender.
