Metals in your pool water can be frustrating. You put chlorine in your pool and it turned a yucky brown color. Or maybe you have weird and stubborn stains on your pool surface that you can't seem to remove.
It could be metal stains. Especially if you have well water which is famous for being high in copper and iron. Your local water company might have metal in the water. It's best to either call your water compny or get your water tested for metals, mainly for copper and iron.
You're going to need a good metal sequestrant. Two brands that I recommend are Jack's Magic and ProTeam Metal Magic. They have the active ingredient 1-Hydroxyethylidene-1, 1- diphosphonic Acid, which is also known as HEDP. It's this ingredient that keep the metals in solution and away from your pool surface, reducing the possibility of staining.
Metal sequestrants that are based on HEDP are the most effective. This is normally not a one shot deal. A metal sequestrant does not remove metal from pool water. It holds it in solution until it can get filtered. Then you backwash the metal out.
Because metal sequestrants break down over time and get filtered and backwashed out, you will need to add a bottle once per week.
