The short answer: ✅ Yes!
Once Basil flowers, the leaves start to lose flavor and become bitter. If you are growing Basil for culinary purposes, it is important to cut the flowers off. This will keep the plant focusing energy on creating tasty leaves rather than going to seed.
Pruning the top leaves regularly will prevent flowers from forming and encourage new leaf growth. 🌱
That being said, pollinators absolutely LOVE Basil flowers and will thank you if you choose to leave them on. The blooms will eventually dry up and you can then harvest the seeds for planting.
Basil flowers are edible and make an excellent tea! 🌿☕️
