In November 1942, American forces arrived in French Morocco and Algeria as part of Operation Torch, the Allied offensive to drive Axis forces from North Africa. Three months later, American forces were to face the battle-hardened and experienced German Afrika Korps for the first time at Kasserine Pass in Tunisia. Confident but inexperienced, the Americans were to soon be taught a bloody lesson in modern armoured warfare.
